MOFFAT CONFIRMED: "The City of Westmount has announced that after nine months as interim head of the Westmount Public Library, Ann Moffat has been named Director of Library Services on a permanent basis. The appointment came at last Monday’s city council meeting, which Moffat attended, and was effective immediately. Moffat was first hired by the Westmount Public Library as a reference librarian in 1988. A year ago she was appointed adult librarian, which made her second in command of the library under Caroline Thibodeau, and in April she was moved up to interim director upon Thibodeau’s abrupt resignation."

WMA BACKS VINEBERG: “Twenty persons attending a special general meeting of the Westmount Municipal Association in Victoria Hall Wednesday last week gave unanimous approval to a report recommending Rhoda Vineberg for endorsement as a candidate in the Feb. 4 ward 1 by-election. The legitimacy of the endorsement has been brought into question by low attendance at the meeting. WMA by-laws establish the presence of 50 members in good standing as a quorum for a special general meeting. More than 600 Westmounters belong to the association. James Wright, president of the WMA and chairman of the meeting, told The Examiner this week he doesn’t feel the absence of a quorum ‘makes any difference.’”

MURDER ON IRVINE: “Homicide squad investigators now feel that the stabbing-and-shooting death of a 38-year-old Irvine avenue bachelor last Friday morning was based on a simple case of break-and-entry to the man’s residence. Barry Bunch, senior engineer at RCA Canada and recent newcomer to the 137 Irvine avenue home, was found by police lying on his living room couch, his throat slashed and two gunshots fired into him.”

EGG ATTACK: “Jacques Gendron of Ile Bizard, 25, chef at a restaurant in Chateau Maisonneuve, Claremont avenue and de Maisonneuve boulevard west, pleaded not guilty in Westmount Municipal Court yesterday morning to a charge of assault. It is alleged that, on Dec. 11, he threw an egg at Waitress Mrs. Margaret Psihogios. Trial was set for Feb. 5.”
