WHS wins torch banner contest
Students of Westmount High School art classes were declared the winners of the Olympic Torch banner contest, held to commemorate the torch's visit to Westmount on Dec. 10.
The winning banner was created as a collaborative effort by students in various classes over a few days, with different students taking on different portions of the banner. The team of students who worked on the banner include Jeremy Andrews, Nathaniel Borochof, Angelo Callari, Jonathan Carrera, Ferdous Hasan, Elisha Hill, Tanisha James, Chris Katopodis, Adrian Miranda, Natasha Solomon-Roy, and Michael Wahba.
A special ceremony was held at Westmount High on Dec. 17 to award the school with the Olympic Torch Relay flag that had been flying at City Hall for the previous three weeks. It is now on display in the lobby of the school, along with the winning banner. Each of the students was also presented with a special commemorative certificate by the City.
