Westmount Y auctions off big-event tickets

This summer, the Westmount YMCA is auctioning tickets to some of Montreal’s most sought-after events — with all proceeds used to fund the Y's Strong Kids campaign.
This is the first year the Y has organized an auction as part of the campaign, but director Gary White believes it will be successful for both the Y and for bid winners.
“This is a chance to see a great show and have a fantastic meal, while at the same time helping kids within the community,” said White.
On offer are tickets to a range of entertainment and sporting events, with all packages including a dinner for two at Ye Olde Orchard Pub. The idea for the auction was suggested by one of the Y’s own members, whose generosity started the ball rolling.
“The truth of the matter is that we’re always looking for interesting ways to raise money, and the idea literally fell into our laps when one of our members offered us some tickets,” White said.
The first event coming up is the June 17 No Doubt concert, supported by US band Paramore, at the Bell centre, with two tickets up for bids. Last week, White said it was possible these tickets could end up selling for a low price, as there was such a short amount of time left before bidding closed on June 12.
Other tickets available are to Just for Laughs Festival performances by Russell Peters and Martin Short, a home game to see the Montreal Alouettes, and also the World Boxing Championship fight between Adrian Diaconu and Jean Pascal. For families, there are tickets to the Walking with Dinosaurs arena spectacular at the Bell Centre.
The money raised will be used to provide one-on-one support to children with special needs, as well as financial assistance to children from financially disadvantaged families. Last year, the Y provided support to over 150 kids and their families.
