Les adventuriers nomades at the McCord Museum
Prolific quilter Lily Lam, president of the Westmount Quilting Guild, recently had an opportunity to do something special for groups of school children from 10 inner-city schools.
Under a commission from the McCord Museum, Lam developed and conducted a series of 10 two-hour workshops during which a group of up to 50 Grade 8 students undertook to each create a personal quilt block using colourful fabric that expressed their thoughts on the theme of 'nomad'. “I marvel at the spontaneous creativity of these children and the results are quite wonderful to look at.,” said Lam.
The upside of downsizing
Noted Westmount interior designer and Rotarian Aurelien Guillory recently treated the membership and guests to a detailed and timely presentation of how to manage the change from a house filled with cherished memories to a smaller home or condo apartment. From making a plan for change to visualizing the outcome, Guillory shared how to make it happen. His presentation was thought-provoking and focused the listeners on the concept of building places to live, not just reside in.
