Get ready for Scapin!
Repercussion Theatre to mount Molière comedy
Repercussion Theatre has unveiled its lineup of summer events, and this year the focus will be on the classic French farce rather than the Bard of Avon.
French and English versions of Molière's 'Les fourberies de Scapin' will be performed this summer in parks around the city, with several dates in Westmount and neighbouring venues.
Directed by Amanda Kellock, this high-energy comedy tells the tale of two handsome young men desperately in love with two beautiful young women. Standing firmly between these young lovers and the two grumpy and disapproving old fathers is Scapin — described as a rascal with the brains of Einstein, the physical prowess of Jackie Chan and the comic madness of Bart Simpson — who, with a cunning that is both subversive and brilliant, works his magic to ensure that all works out for the best.
The English version, 'Scapin the Schemer', will be presented in Cabot Square on July 22 and Westmount Park on July 28. It will be presented in French on July 21 in Cabot Square and July 29 in Westmount Park.
In August, 'Scapin the Schemer' will be presented in Girouard Park on Aug. 2 and in Westmount Park on Aug. 18 and 19. Shows begin at dusk.
