It has been a very special month at Place Kensington, the seniors’ residence on Ste. Catherine Street, for no less than three of its residents have recently turned 100 — Evelyn Alexander (June 29), Harriet Cohen (June 30) and Hedwig (Heddy) Unterberg (July 3).
A special birthday event to honour the three women is planned for next week, featuring a lineup of entertainment that includes the Cote St. Luc Entertainers along with pianist Johnny Maloney and percussionist Martin Hazarian.
Congratulations and a special happy birthday to all!Congratulations also to Examiner freelancer Martin C. Barry, whose recent front-page photo of Westmount’s St. Jean Baptiste bonfire won the Quebec Community Newspapers Association’s photo contest for the month of June. Barry’s photo, taken in Westmount Park at the height of the St. Jean festivities, is being displayed on the QCNA home page

Croquet, anyone?
The Oxford and Cambridge Society of Montreal recently invited the Harvard Club of Quebec to a game of croquet at the Westmount Lawn Bowling Club.
Fortunately, the weather had improved and about 40 people, including 17 from the Harvard Club attended for a most enjoyable afternoon.
The croquet matches were more a practice session, as several members had not played before. However, one match was won by Catherine Blake, president of the Harvard Club of Quebec. One of the stars of the host team was Pran Mehta from Dar es Salaam.
There was an excellent bill of fare including strawberries and cream, complimented by the favourite British beverages – Pimms No. 1 and Buck’s Fizz. The event had been organized by former McGill Professor Gerald Ratzer.
