Term of New Brunswick lieutenant-governor extended to 2009

OTTAWA - Prime Minister Stephen Harper has extended the term of New Brunswick Lt.-Gov. Hermenegilde Chiasson to Sept. 30, 2009.
The prime minister says the lieutenant-governor now will be able to play a role in the World Acadian Congress, which is being held in New Brunswick in Aug. 2009.
Chiasson is a well-known academic, author and patron of the arts.
When he was appointed to the post in 2003, he was teaching at the University of Moncton.
During his career as a poet, playwright and director, he also worked at Radio-Canada.
