WINNIPEG - Winnipeg police have established a tactical team that will respond to high-risk events to keep officers and the public out of harm's way.
Police Chief Keith McCaskill says the team will respond to calls that involve violence, the threat of violence or weapons. The team is made up of 15 members. They'll back up officers in high-risk situations such as when a search warrant is being executed and it's believed weapons could become involved.
McCaskill says the team will take part in other police-related duties when it's not involved in high-risk manoeuvres.
