BROOKS, Alta. - Five men are facing charges in the death of a man in southern Alberta after an attack that RCMP say was premeditated.
Police say Sharmarke Mohamed Warsame, 39, and Abdirahaman Kerow, 31, both of Brooks, were lured to a remote area near the community and assaulted by several males on Sept. 1.
They say Kerow escaped but Warsame was later located and killed after trying to evade his attackers.
He had called police for help, saying he didn't know where he was, and his body was found four days later in a field.
Carl Haywood, 42, of Brooks was initially charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder.
Four other men, who are from the same area, are now facing manslaughter and other charges.
