VICTORIA - A coroner's inquest in Victoria has heard allegations of police confusion and miscommunication the morning Peter Lee broke into his family's home and killed his wife, her parents and his six-year-old son.
Victoria police Sgt. Andy Lacon told the inquest he was frustrated that the seriousness of the tragedy wasn't immediately conveyed from the nearby Saanich 911 operators to Victoria Police.
Lacon told the inquest an amalgamated police system, instead of a patchwork of police services, would better serve the Victoria region.
However, several other officers told the coroner's jury they didn't believe having a unified police force would have made any difference in the murder-suicide.
Also on Thursday, the coroner gave the media access to video interviews made by police of Lee and his wife, Sunny Park, just five weeks before the murders after Lee intentionally drove his vehicle into a pole.
Park tells police in the interview that Lee had threatened her, her family and then himself.
