CHATHAM, Ont. - A former church minister from Chatham, Ont., facing sexual assault charges has been deemed fit to stand trial.
Robert James Duthie is expected to learn the date for the start of his trial at a hearing scheduled for April 4. He is charged with indecent assault and gross indecency over alleged incidents between 1975 and 1972 at Victoria Avenue United Church.
Duthie, who is 68 and living in Cambridge, Ont., underwent a fitness assessment due to health concerns.
Police base the charges on claims made by a man who said he was assaulted over seven years, starting in 1975 when he was 12.
The man alleges he was abused at the church and at a camp associated with the church.
