RED DEER, Alta. - A spokesman for central Alberta landowners says he's disappointed that the province will stop doing environmental assessments on proposed power transmission lines.
Joe Anglin says there's no legitimate reason for the move, which he believes may be an attempt to "railroad" property owners to allow large power transmission projects.
Anglin says an environmental assessment is crucial in determining the effects of large power transmission lines.
Rob Renner, the province's environment minister, says public concerns related to power line projects will be addressed by the Alberta Utilities Commission.
He says the money saved on assessments can be used on other environmental issues.
Anglin led a successful challenge by landowners last year of a proposed transmission line between Edmonton and Calgary. (CKGY, CHQR)
