KAMLOOPS, B.C. - A former New Democrat MP is under investigation by the B.C. Securities Commission.
But Nelson Riis denied any wrongdoing by his company, which makes low-cost homes for the developing world. Commission spokesman Ken Gracey said Friday the commission will hold a hearing into allegations that Canadian Rockport Homes issued misleading statements to investors relating to the distribution of $4.4 million US in securities.
Gracey said that involved investors in British Columbia and elsewhere between 2002 and 2005.
Riis was a director of the company and William Malone was Rockport's CEO.
The commission said they were responsible for the company's filings.
But Riis said the company never issued any misleading statements.
"Obviously they're concerned about some things that were said or written or whatever but I can tell you without hesitation that there's never been anything that went out that was misleading," he said.
The company is based in Nevada and has its head office in Vancouver.
Riis and Malone will go before a panel of commissioners at a public hearing in Vancouver on May 28.
Riis served as an MP for Kamloops, B.C., from 1980 to 2000.
