OTTAWA - Highlights from Auditor General Sheila Fraser's report to Parliament, released Tuesday:
-Canada's border agency has failed to keep up with the flow of thousands of illegal immigrants entering Canada, some of them criminals who remain on the lam.
-Passport fees have been too high because Foreign Affairs has overcharged for so-called consular services; the department has agreed to review fees.
-Native kids under the care of welfare agencies are being shortchanged by a fee structure that hasn't changed since 1988, despite increased needs.
-The prime minister's residence is crumbling, and workers need $10 million and 12 to 15 months' of prolonged access to fix the problems.
-Transport Canada has not properly managed a new safety regime that requires aircraft operators to carry out their own safety checks without direct government inspections.
-The Defence Department's supply lines to Afghanistan are shaky, though soldiers there so far are getting what they need.
-The Public Health Agency of Canada relies primarily on the goodwill of the provinces to get timely information about disease outbreaks, a system that isn't working.
