BONNYVILLE, Alta. - RCMP have charged a 17-year-old boy after allegations he falsely reported that a bus loaded with schoolchildren had rolled northeast of Edmonton.
The teen is expected to appear in court on June 17 on a charge of sending a false message. RCMP allege that an emergency dispatcher in Bonnyville, Alta., received a call April 29 that a school bus filled with children had rolled on a secondary highway near the community.
Not only did several emergency vehicles respond, the local hospital was placed on high alert to receive possible casualties.
When emergency vehicles arrived at the location given to the dispatcher, they didn't find anything.
Police say a subsequent call to the dispatcher advised that the call was a hoax.
