TORONTO - The federal government is forking over $200,000 for a pilot project aimed at expanding the Toronto drug court program.
The court aims to reduce crime associated with drug dependency through court-monitored treatment for addicts who become involved in crime. The pilot means eight program participants will receive supportive housing as well.
Attorney General Rob Nicholson and Human Resources Minister Monte Solberg made the announcement in Toronto on Thursday.
The announcement was one of several made in and around the city in support of Canada's most marginal citizens.
It also comes days before the federal government is expected to table its budget.
