OWEN SOUND, Ont. - Workers at the Grey Bruce Health Unit plan to hit the picket lines Thursday after contract talks failed to produce a new contract.
OPSEU says a picket line was to be set up today at the Health Unit's offices in Owen Sound by 27 clerical and support workers. The union says wages are the key issue and that the workers are paid about 15 per cent less than counterparts at other Ontario health units.
A unit official warned Monday that a strike would cause some low-risk health promotion programs and activities to be affected.
Professional staff, including registered nurses and public health inspectors, are expected to maintain essential services.
The last contract for the affected employees expired last October.
