BURNABY, B.C. - A Burnaby RCMP officer has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death after her vehicle slammed into a car killing both young men inside.
Const. Petina Kostiuk's lights and sirens were on when she raced through a red light last October in response to a report of a suicidal woman.
Her cruiser hit a vehicle with 27-year-old Albert Haczewski and 26-year-old Walter Hara inside, killing both men.
On top of the criminal charges, the RCMP is conducting a parallel investigation into the officer's conduct and has asked Vancouver Police to review the complete investigation.
Kostiuk is still recovering from the injuries she received during the crash and remains off duty.
