OTTAWA - Federal health officials say there are now 16 confirmed deaths from a country-wide listeriosis outbreak linked to processed meats.
The most recent death is in Ontario, where 14 people now are confirmed to have died as a result of the Listeria strain identified in the outbreak.
The other deaths from listeriosis have come in British Columbia and Alberta.
Five additional deaths are under investigation to determine if listeriosis was a contributing cause of death.
In total, there have been 43 listeriosis cases linked to the outbreak.
The outbreak has been linked to recalled meat from a Maple Leaf Foods (TSX:MFI) plant in Toronto.
