EDMONTON - A young man has been sentenced as an adult for stabbing a 17-year-old to death outside a community hall where he was celebrating his birthday.
An Edmonton judge has ruled that the 19-year-old go to prison for life with no chance at parole for at least seven years.
He was 17 at the time of the slaying in November 2006 and pleaded guilty last fall to second-degree murder.
Friends say Evan Grykuliak had been planning his birthday party for months and may have been trying to get some uninvited party-crashers to leave when he was attacked.
Family and friends from both sides packed the courtroom where the judge made his decision.
