A complex web

Alfred Hitchcock was reportedly interested in buying the rights to Robert Thomas’s successful play Trap for a Lonely Man with a view to turning it into a film, he was that impressed with it, it goes without saying that it is difficult to impress a master but with this play it is easy to see why. The Lakeshore Players are currently tackling this play that ‘plays’ with the whole whodunit genre and completely turns it on its ear. Just when you think you have it all figured out (and lets face it, most of us are pretty smug about i.e., ‘I knew it was the butler all along!’) one seemingly small detail escapes you, and you really haven’t figured out anything at all. Very few plays can pull off this feat, but with the all around solid acting, tight direction, and dramatic pacing, Trap for a Lonely Man does so superbly. No wonder Hitchcock was impressed.
