The Chronicle, the Voice of Montreal’s West Island, picked up 16 nominations at the annual Quebec Community Newspapers Association Awards.
The West Island Chronicle is a finalist for Best Overall Newspaper, Best Sports Page(s), Best Special Section and Best Community Newspaper Promotion (for Young Achievers).
Reporter Marc Lalonde is nominated in six writing categories: Best Arts & Entertainment Story, Best Column, Best Column/Feature (business), Best Editorial, Best Education Story and Best Agricultural Story.
Reporter Andy Blatchford is up for Best News Story, Best Column/Feature (business) and Best Agricultural Story.
Editor Albert Kramberger is up for Best Headline Writing.
Wendy Smith is up for Best Community Health Story. Freelance photographer Stéphane Brunet is up for Best Sports Photo.
Meanwhile, our Transcontinental sister papers were also nominated: The West End Chronicle grabbed one nomination (David Goldberg for Best Education Story). The Westmount Examiner got five: Best Front Page, Charles Montgomery for Best News Story and Best News Photo, Chris Manitt for Best Feature Photo and Wayne Larsen for Best Editorial Cartoon. The Courrier Laval Weekly News is nominated for Best Community Newspaper Promotion (for its Young Achievers program).
