SWAT hockey fundraiser begins Thursday
The Westmount Old Timers Hockey team (SWAT) will be holding its 18th annual Tournoi this weekend, beginning Thursday night and running through Sunday afternoon.
A schedule of games involving eight teams, including Ottawa, are available at the Westmount Arena.

The concept for the SWAT Tournoi arose from the late Nicolas Matossian. At the age of 15, Nicolas decided to help future generations of children to survive brain cancer, and organized fund-raising activities for the benefit of two hospitals, the Montreal Children’s and Hôpital Ste-Justine.

The proceeds from these Tournois have resulted in donations of $185,000 to these extraordinary hospitals during the past 17 years. These donations are possible due to the support of the many dedicated Westmount retailers who continue to provide program advertising and supplies for the Tournoi, and the contributions of advertisements, donations and products from numerous corporations and professionals.

Throughout the Tournoi period at the arena, Westmounters can add their bids in the SWAT silent auction for hockey and other merchandise, to help raise additional funds for this year’s Tournoi.

This year’s silent auction items include:

• A rain jacket and a down-filled ski jacket by InSport.

• Three Hotel de la Montagne gift certificates of $100 each.

• Two Icelandair tickets to anywhere they fly (some restrictions apply).

• Two tickets to the awesome Montreal Jubilation Choir on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m.

• Blues, jazz, electronics and world CDs.

• Bryan Lee, Oliver Jones and Cream DVDs.

• Three fruits baskets (special for the

holidays).

• Adidas/Reebok/CCM hockey sweaters and equipment.

• Three special weave hockey undershirts.

The Silent Auction items will be on display at the arena. The cut-off time and place for the hockey related items will be 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3 at the arena, while all other items will have an auction cut-off time of 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Victoria Hall, where a ballroom dance will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible donation can contact Howard Hoppenheim at 514-849-4581.
