New artisans bring energy to festival
Look for dolls, shawls, painted lace accessories, fabric bags of all kinds and raku pottery when the eighth annual Westmount Artisans Festival rolls into Victoria Hall next weekend, Nov. 11 and 12.
There will be lots of jewellery, each piece a work of art requiring much patience and expertise, and visitors will likely be amazed at the creativity of the artisans.
Sewing, felting, weaving, quilting, oilcloth bags and bicycle bells, baskets and coin puzzlesóall the traditional crafts will be there, as well as floorcloths, photofolders, wooly hats, gloves, mittens and exquisite painted silk scarves. Sweet-smelling soaps and sachets, gorgeous glass and unusual paper objects round out the selection.
There will also be plenty of food. Caterer and pastry chef Donna Malin will be centre stage with her tempting menus for lunch, coffee or tea break. In the Victoria Hall foyer, the Christmas tree will again be decorated with objects and ornaments made by the artisans. All profits from the sale of these items will go the Mackay Centre.
The Artisans' Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days. Admission is non-perishable food items or $2, to be collected by Westmount Public Security to benefit their annual Christmas food basket program.
