Westmount properties honored by local heritage organization
Westmounter Michael McAdoo was recently given a Heritage Emeritus Award for maintaining and restoring his residence at 4274 Dorchester Boulevard—one of two local properties to be singled out for this distinction by Foundation Heritage Montreal.
“I am very pleased to see another Westmount property owner honoured for restoring their own house by keeping its original characteristics, said Doreen Lindsay, president of the Westmount Historical Association.
“Mr. McAdoo and every other homeowner who undertake thoughtful, caring renovation to their house help to preserve the extensive heritage value of our city.
Pierre-André Ouimet, president of the Foundation Heritage Montreal said the Montreal Architectural Heritage Campaign is an opportunity for owners, heritage lovers and the general public to work together to preserve the city’s unique character.
Twenty-three Heritage Awards were given out to homeowners and 12 to business at an official ceremony held at Montreal City Hall on Friday, Sept. 22.
The other Westmount property, Sheinart’s Ltd. clothing store at the corner of Atwater and St. Antoine Street, received an award in the commercial category.
This handing out of awards to individuals and organizations that have preserved the unique character of their buildings marked the beginning of a week-long series of free cultural events that are part of the 16th Montreal Architectural Heritage Campaign.
The Westmount Historical Association has mounted a small exhibition in the Westmount Public Library of photographs of local buildings designed by architect Robert Findlay over the years.
