Members of new CDN-NDG borough council sworn into office
Following the Nov. 1 municipal election, the six members of the Côte des Neiges-Notre Dame de Grâce borough council were formally sworn into office on Thursday, at the Bonsecours Market in Old Montreal, a block or so from city hall.
Borough Mayor Michael Applebaum and Snowdon city councillor Marvin Rotrand are the only two members to survive from the pre-election borough administration. While the council is still overwhelmingly dominated by Union Montreal, Peter McQueen’s victory for Projet Montréal in the district of NDG promises to give the Union members a run for their money on the borough council.

Friends and family of the CDN-NDG councillors who attended the oath-administration ceremony included Paul Shubin, the husband of newly-elected Loyola city councillor Susan Clarke. Former Notre Dame de Grâce Liberal MNA Russell Copeman, who now has a management post at Concordia University, had a front-row seat, along with a small delegation from Concordia.

Carole Dupuis, who finished a distant second for Projet Montréal in the CDN-NDG borough mayoralty race, was also among the guests. Former NDG councillor Marcel Tremblay, who lost his bid to become mayor of the Borough of Villeray-St-Michel/Park Extension, but finished in second place, told The Monitor that he attended his last meeting of the centre city executive committee on Wednesday, and he was contemplating what he will be doing from now on.
