Some backyards are greener than others.
The Best of the West team of honourable judges from
The finalists for Best Backyard Garden are: Ada Pun’s garden in Beaconsfield, Roger Thibault and Theo Wouter’s garden in Pointe Claire and Diane Da Morada’s garden in Pointe Claire.
All three gardens are shining examples of the extraordinary green thumbs many West Islanders possess.
Coming in third was Da Morada’s garden in Pointe Claire.
"I really like Diane Da Morada's backyard. It is luxurious and a little chaotic, feeling a little bit like a forest. I love the fact that it is not ordered and too clean,” stated judge Marie-Hélène Verville.
Thibault and Wouter’s magnificent garden was a close runner-up.
“The owners successfully created an original and ordered universe, all whilst preserving a natural and relaxed character,” commented judge Marie-Claude Simard.
Coming out on top, with the most first place votes by our four judges, was Pun’s pretty garden in Beaconsfield.
"I have a weakness for water gardens and landscaping that incorporates water into its elements. This entry is well-rounded with excellent use of colour and colour is something I look for in a garden. Very impressive!" wrote judge Marc Lalonde.
Best of the West wants to shine a light on some of the West Island’s finest and the key to the success of this project is community participation. Coming up: late night eats (July 1), community pool (July 8), steak (July 15), pasta dish (July 25), bagels (Aug. 5), breakfast ( Aug. 12), sandwich (Aug. 19), readers' choice (you pick the topic) (Aug. 26). Send in your nominations– with a short explanation behind your choice – to editor@transcontinental.ca.
