Examiner recognized for excellence
The Quebec Community Newspapers Association (QCNA) has announced the nominees for this year's newspaper awards, and the Westmount Examiner has been short-listed in two categories — Best Feature Photo and Best Editorial Cartoon.

Photojournalist Martin C. Barry was nominated for his front-page photo of last summer's Canada Day Splash Bash at the Westmount pool, and cartoonist Ferg Gadzala was nominated for his cartoon lampooning the controversy over the feeding of squirrels in Westmount Park.

The Examiner also received two honourable mentions — one to editor Wayne Larsen for his weekly column on media and local issues, and one to freelancer Redmond Shannon for his profile of local Irish musician Belfast Andi, which was published last summer.

Winners will be announced at the QCNA's annual awards banquet on May 22.
