Who owns the tree?
To the editor:
A leaflet which the City distributes states that if your neighbour has a tree that causes or threatens to cause damage to your property, you can ask that neighbour to eliminate the cause of damage.
However, I learned to my regret that some neighbours appear to be more equal than others: A big tree (situated in front of my neighbour's land but) wholly located on City territory, is perpetually creating damage to my property. The City says that it is not responsible, because the tree is a seedling. Therefore, they ambiguously call this tree a "private tree," suggesting that the responsibility is that of its own "neighbours." I wonder how many orphaned trees there are like that on Westmount's streets.

Not all dog owners are responsible
To the editor:
While I read your recent article on the dog owners association with interest, I would say that the dog owners who use Prince Albert Avenue regularly allow their dogs to do pee pee on my flower garden, July 4 at 6:15 a.m. being a case in point.
When I recently confronted an owner, asking them to move their dog off my property, I was told that I had to have a notice that dogs are not allowed. I do not wish to put up such a notice, as quite frankly I do not think that it would make the slightest difference to these inconsiderate people.
