Shamrocks maintain close West Island identity

It’s now called the Montreal Shamrocks instead of the West Island Shamrocks, but in reality, the junior B lacrosse team has managed to maintain a close identity with the local landscape.

Not only has the club -- which is now in its fourth year of existence in a life that has seen it go through a frustratingly high number of head coaching changes -- decided to still call the Dorval Arena home, but anyone familiar with area amateur sports will recognize several very familiar names on its roster. Those include the three Paris brothers, one of which, Drew, played several years with a highly talented group of AA West Island Royals hockey teams before going on to play in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Josh Brassard, a teammate of Paris on those Royals teams, Wyatt Weir, who played in the Lakeshore Hockey Association before also going on to the QMJHL, and Nic Albany who played one season with the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League West Island Lions.

“It may have a West Island flavour, and it supports the West Island Lacrosse Association (WILA), which is our feeder system, but this team encompasses more than the West Island. It encompasses Montreal,” said Pointe Claire businessman Victor Brassard, who bought the team this past off-season from WILA. “We’re the only junior B lacrosse team in Montreal.”

The first thing Brassard did upon taking over control of the organization was to bring in people he was familiar with. Men who have also established names for themselves in the game as teachers and administrators, including head coach Peter Lehmann, who also serves as head coach of the Bishops University Gaiters, and general manager Jean Boislard. He then proceeded along with Lehmann to recruit several out of province players, including his two goaltenders, Jason Jacobs and Mitch Hannigan, both of whom are from the Maritimes.

“I find there’s a lot more discipline on this team,” said veteran Shamrocks captain Jason Martin. “Everyone is here to play, not mess around. The new staff is dedicated to the team which helps a lot.”

Martin and the Shamrocks easily defeated the Laval Rebels 13-0 on Saturday night at Dorval Arena. Thierry Boislard, an underage 14-year-old, led the way with three goals and two assists. If you would like to take in a Shamrocks game, the club entertains Valleyfield this Saturday night at the Dorval Arena. Game time is 7 p.m. As well, for more information on the Shamrocks, go to www.montrealshamrocks.com.

Sporting events that keep our youth away from the gangs putting more graveyards in their hoods then brothers as well as the regimes of the USA that take a few years to create as many graves as it took the ghetto gangs in 40 would be a great way to generate revenue for the purpose of offering opportunity to those who do not want to affiliate with either of the poisonous cultures of this nation and world.

I would rather see young adults smokin' a joint then signing their conscience away to the dudez imposing their stranglehold on this nation and the world. It is the regimes of the USA that are a poison to these streets and we should be daring to keep them away from their indoctrination processes.

So, if you know of those in the world of sports that would like to bring income to our mutual interests for the purpose of creating a better future for those who may like to get down on the ice rink, the football field, etc., but don't need to take it to the level of some bloodbath or stranglehold to get their dicks up then you are welcome to refer them to me.
