Repercussion reaps awards in Ottawa
Repercussion Theatre's production of Greek, which was presented in Montreal and Ottawa in March of last year, has won two Rideau Awards, Ottawa's professional theatre awards.
The awards, for Best Production and Best Director, were given out at the Arts Court Theatre in Ottawa in front of the city's professional theatre community.
Directed by Kevin Orr, Repercussion Theatre's former artistic director, Stephen Berkoff's Greek is a modern adaptation of the Oedipus tale by Sophocles. A young man is fated to kill his father and sleep with his mother. The story is set in post-punk Britain and focuses on the numerous restrictions on love in a modern-day society, as well as the seriousness of patricide.
Greek was originally produced by Third Wall Theatre Company in 2005 and was awarded the Capital Critics Circle Award for Best Production 2005 in Ottawa. Repercussion Theatre revived this award-winning production, in 2007, with the original all-star cast, consisting of Chuck Herriott, Teri Rata Loretto, Margo MacDonald and Stewart Matthews.
Repercussion Theatre recently ended a successful run of 'Shakespeare Unplugged' at the Atwater Library, and will soon be announcing the dates of its summer production of The Tempest, to be performed in local parks.
