Attempted kidnapping
Attempted kidnapping
A woman in her early 20s was assaulted by two men who tried to kidnap her on Sunday morning near the Fairview Pointe Claire shopping centre. The two suspects tried to force her into their car, but the victim fought back and was able to escape. The suspects both took off in their car.

According to police at Station 5, this seems to be an isolated case and is the only one of its kind in the West Island.

The case of the disproportionately shaped jacket

Police arrested a 21-year-old Pincourt man after he attempted to rob a depanneur in Ste. Anne de Bellevue on Friday. A police officer on patrol near the depanneur noticed the suspect enter and then walk out without going to the cash register. According to police Station 1 Const. Jean-Pierre Levis, the officer realized the suspect’s jacket was “disproportionately shaped” compared to when he walked into the store. When he noticed the officer, the suspect took off running towards the Ste. Anne boardwalk, but another officer in a police car intercepted the man and arrested him. The suspect had about $100 of stolen goods on him and was charged with shoplifting.

Overturned truck ties up traffic

An overturned gas truck tied up traffic for some time on St. Charles Boulevard on Friday evening. The truck was coming off the westbound Highway 40 service road to head south on St. Charles Boulevard at about 7:45 p.m., but flipped over while taking the turn. The driver, a 31-year-old Montreal man, sustained minor injuries.

Alert on alarm dodgers

A burglar used a gazebo in a backyard as a stepladder to enter an empty Île Bizard home on St. Malo Street last Friday night at around 8:30 p.m., climbing it to reach a second-story window that led to a bedroom. He stole money and identification papers before escaping through a back door downstairs, triggering an alarm system. The alarm company called police, who warned the homeowner on his way back from a trip.

Dan Maheu, community relations officer at Station 3, warns that burglars frequently try to break into homes from second stories, which tend not to have an alarm system.
