Local teams get ready for playoff action
By Mike Somma
As the minor hockey season inches towards the playoffs, it’s time to recap the accomplishments of the Westmount traveling teams. Here’s a look at each squad individually.

Novice A

It seems the Novice A Wings have preached equality this season, counting four ties in their eleven games. At the moment, their record doesn’t put them at the top of the standings, but things are looking up. For starters, they’ve played the fewest amount of games in the league, holding as many as five in hand on some of their rivals. And after starting the season by dropping two out of three, they’ve lost just twice in their last eight outings.

Atom A

The Atom A Wings currently sit in second place behind only the undefeated TMR Demons. Their potent offence is near the league lead in goals with 51 and their defense and goaltending have been stellar, holding the opposition scoreless in six of their 15 games! To top it off, they’ve earned an extra point, awarded for gentlemanly play, in each of their outings.

Atom B

The Atom B Predators began the season with a 5-1 win and haven’t looked back since. After 13 games, they remain undefeated, scoring 72 goals while surrendering just 12. Let’s hope they can keep it up through the final five games of the year.

Pee Wee A

Sitting in second place, the Pee Wee A Wings have been impressive this season. They’re currently working on a five game unbeaten streak, trying to match their remarkable run of eight consecutive games without a loss earlier in the year. That streak included a string of six consecutive wins, which propelled them near the top of the standings.

Bantam A

The Bantam A Wings have battled their way to occupy third place in the standings. After beginning the season with five wins in six games, they have been searching for that consistency since. With the playoffs around the corner, there’s no better time than the present.

Midget B

The Predators are atop the Midget B standings. However competition is fierce, as just four points separate the top four teams. The logjam at the top means that each of the remaining five games is crucial as teams jockey for the lead, but this shouldn’t be a problem. The only hiccup the Preds have endured this season is a pair of losses on back-to-back nights in January. Prior to that, they had gone undefeated in their first 12 games, and have not lost in their five games since.
