Ice damage closes Conservatory
The City of Westmount has announced that the Westmount Conservatory and Greenhouses will be closed until further notice for safety reasons.
The closure is due to damage to the glass roof panels suffered as a result of the recent winter storm. Friday night’s freezing rain caused an accumulation of ice on the building’s upper-level roof panels, which slid off and crashed through approximately 20 lower-level glass panels on Saturday during the day.
Two people were in the building at the time of the incident, but there were no injuries.
The Public Works Department is working with the building contractor to replace the broken panels and reopen the building as quickly as possible.
