Manny Batshaw honoured for outstanding service to child welfare
Manuel G. Batshaw, the man behind the Westmount's well-known youth and family centre, was recently recognized for his lifelong devotion to youth services at a gala fundraising event at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
The Batshaw Foundation, a non-profit corporation of concerned volunteers that provides support to clients of Batshaw Youth and Family Centres, hosted a donors’ reception in honour of Batshaw for outstanding service to child welfare in Quebec. The event raised $70,602, will go to the Foundation’s different programs.
“The Batshaw Foundation is proud to have hosted a donors’ reception in honour of Manny Batshaw, one of the principal architects of social services for youth in Quebec,” said Foundation president Nicole Mikula.
“Manny has dedicated more than 70 years of his life to caring for our youth. As a pioneer and visionary, his endeavours have directly impacted and benefited the lives of thousands of Quebecers. Given the magnitude of his contribution to society, it was only fitting to honour Manny and seek continued support for the organization that bears his name.”
Batshaw Youth and Family Centres provide protection, support and treatment for child and youth victims of sexual and physical abuse or neglect, and youth with severe behaviour problems. Services are provided to children, youth and their families under the Youth Protection Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and the Act Respecting Health Services and Social Services. Batshaw’s services are provided to residents of Montreal who wish to receive these services in English and to the Jewish community. Each year about 5,200 youths and their families receive services from Batshaw’s staff of 1,000 employees.
