Speeding Bentley leads cops to arrest
Police believe they may have solved several local burglary cases with the recent arrest of a suspect following a dramatic joyride through Westmount in a stolen Bentley.
The incident took place shortly after 3 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, when police officers at the corner of Drummond and Sherbrooke Street downtown spotted the speeding Bentley heading westward toward Westmount. Instead of taking off in pursuit, the officers simply called ahead and had Station 12 officers wait for the car at the corner of Clarke Avenue. Sure enough, the driver continued into Westmount, but when he saw the waiting patrol car he tried to turn sharply onto Olivier Avenue. He lost control of the vehicle and hit a building — then took off on foot.
The suspect was finally subdued after a chase and arrested by officers Sebastien Champoux and Alexandre Dallaire. He was charged with stealing the car and driving under the influence of alcohol. According to Const. Adelbert Pimentel of Station 12, he was also charged with seven counts of breaking and entering, and is suspected of two further burglaries that took place earlier that night.
