Wright will be missed
To the editor:
It is really sad news to hear and read of the death of James Wright.
I remember him at the monthly Westmount council meetings. We also met in Westmount Park from time to time.
He was really a nice person, ever cheerful. We shall all miss him.

A tragic and untimely loss
To the editor:
Jim Wright was a Gentleman and a Gentle Man. Westmount, together with his immense other communities, will sorely miss his considerable expertise, including his ability to effectively neutralize adverse situations. We, and countless others, will miss his considerable presence.
Our sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Nancy, their children and other family members, in this tragic and untimely loss.

No surprises in Outremont
To the editor:
The defeat of the federal Liberal candidate in Outremont was no surprise, as it had been indicated in the polls. What was surprising was the margin of defeat, this despite the large number of Liberal luminaries who participated in his campaign. The Liberal fate in Outremont was sealed by the choice of candidate. M. Dion’s nomination of Joceylon Coulon had been roundly condemned by the Montreal Gazette and the B’Nai Brith, amongst others.
A more suitable candidate could probably have been selected if the riding had not been 'closed' and one had been elected at a nomination meeting by the local Liberals. Westmount-Ville Marie has been 'closed' by M. Dion, since Lucienne Robillard has announced she will not be a candidate in the next federal election.
To avoid a repeat of the Liberal disaster in Outremont, he should allow local Liberals to choose their candidate at a nomination meeting, or he might be in for another shock at the next election.
