Get ready for Westmount's Canada Day Splash Bash!
By Matthew Hendy
Dress appropriately, because if you are anywhere near the municipal pool this Sunday afternoon, you will get wet. That's because Westmounters of all ages are invited to celebrate Canada’s 140th birthday with a big splash.

The annual Canada Day Splash Bash celebration will take place this Sunday at the Westmount pool, next door to the arena.
Barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs will be available starting at noon, while the Splash Bash pool activities – which include swimming races, the retrieve-the-puck diving contest and, of course, the biggest splash contest – will begin at 2 p.m.

Canada Day cake will be served at 3 p.m.

Westmount's Canada Day Splash Bash has been held for over 15 years.

“It’s always the most popular event at the pool” said Suzie Chapman of the Sports and Recreation Department. “We always get a big turnout – last year, for instance, we sold 1,200 hot dogs and hamburgers.”

Chapman also pointed out that, barring lightning, rain won’t deter the festivities. “Rain doesn’t usually bother the kids in the pool, and we can barbecue in the rain,” she said. “It rained on us three years ago and the barbecue was a hit nonetheless.”

There is no charge for admission. Hot dogs and drinks will sell for $1 and hamburgers for $2.
