Public Security called to sewer rescue
A routine stroll through the neighbourhood turned into a traumatic experience for a local family on June 6, when one of the youngsters slipped through a sewer grate near Rosemount Crescent.

In the ensuing confusion, the family — of wild ducks — attracted considerable attention on the street as several neighbours attempted to come to the duckling's aid. Westmount Public Security was called to the scene, and an officer assisted with the removal of the sewer grate and safe removal of the duckling from the sludge.

The incident was anything but a canard for Mount Pleasant Avenue resident Valerie Schwartz, who happened upon the scene and took photos and video footage of the rescue. She was able to shoot a 17-second video of the duckling being rescued from the sewer, and later posted it on YouTube, where it can now be viewed under the title "Lucky Duck(ling)."
