Pirouette fashion circus hits the Shaar
The Metcalfe Hall of Congregation Shaar Hashomayim was crowded for the recent Sisterhood presentation of the latest fashions for men, women and children — put on this year with a circus theme.
Sixty-nine members of the Shaar served as the models for the event, and although amateurs, they all managed to carry themselves and display their clothes in a most professional way.
The hour-long show was divided into 18 scenes — among them La Papparazz1, Al Capone, Elves, Haute Couture, African Zulu, Naughty & Nautical, Fairies and Envers — which changed in rapid succession. The models, many of whom were required to act in several scenes wearing different garments, were under pressure to change clothes as fast as humanly possible.
The accessories were a highlight, such as propellers on the hats of children, shoes on the hats of ladies, and men wearing fedoras in different scenes.
Much of the show's success can be attributed to event co-chairs Jessica Yaffe and Ingrid Muroff, as well as choreographer Warren Leacock, coordinator Sally Yep and piano man Michael Kornik.
Local fashion houses sponsored the event, with the programme indicating where the delightful clothes were available.
The evening concluded with a champagne reception, where everyone congratulated one another on another job well done. This was the second year the Fashion Circus has been organized, and judging by the enthusiastic response, it will no doubt become a regular event on the Shaar's calendar of events.
