Radio-Canada to re-stage Dawson tragedy May 27
In past years, local military regiments have carried out airlift exercises in Westmount, and have informed the public beforehand that there will be no cause for concern when helicopters descend on the community — it is just an exercise.
In a similar vein, Radio-Canada is informing Westmounters that it plans to film a partial re-enactment of the Sept. 13 Dawson College tragedy next Sunday, May 27, on the very spot where much of it took place — around the south entrance on de Maisonneuve Boulevard.

The filming is for an hour-long medical documentary on the work of Urgence Santé’s ambulance teams, the trauma teams, surgeons and medical personnel of the Montreal General Hospital on that day. As a result, there will be some Urgence Santé ambulances in front of the College, along with other police and emergency vehicles.

Current plans call for de Maisonneuve to be closed between Atwater and Wood Avenue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Only local traffic for residents of 1 Wood Ave. and the Alexis Nihon Tower will be allowed to pass. The Dawson métro exit on de Maisonneuve will also be closed that day.

In case of rain, the filming will be held Sunday, June 3.

The documentary is being shot for Découverte, a popular weekly science program. It is scheduled to air in September.
