Chair Claude Trudel welcomes Karin Marks to the STM board
Marks joins public transit board

Westmount Mayor Karin Marks has been appointed a member of the board of directors that oversees Montreal Island's public transit system.
Marks's appointment to the Société de transport to Montréal (STM) board was confirmed on April 26 by the Agglomeration Council. She replaces Yvon Labrosse, the mayor of Montreal East, on the board.
A statement issued last Monday by the STM's communications office said Marks "is thrilled to take on the new challenges afforded to her as a member of the STM board of directors, especially since the development of public transportation on the island of Montreal is of great interest to her."
"On behalf of the STM board of directors, I would like to thank Mr. Labrosse for his contribution to the transit corporation," said Verdun borough mayor Claude Trudel, who chairs the STM board.
"By the same token, I would like to wish a warm welcome to Mrs. Marks," he added. "I am convinced that her presence on the board will go a long way to helping the STM carry out both its mission and its projects."
Although Montreal's transit workers are currently threatening to take strike action, Marks said she has no knowledge of the situation beyond what the STM has already announced.
"The STM has made public their intentions and that's the information that we've been given as well," she said. "But there's nothing additional to that."
Marks said her involvement on the board will be minimal at first. "For the moment I'm just sitting on the board," she said. "Ultimately, I will, I'm sure, be asked to join one of the committees.
"But what I have said to them is 'give me a few months to better understand what the different situations are (and) what the different committees do and then I'll decide which one I think I can best contribute to."
