Now two Westmounters are promoting awareness of local events and activities through a new web site called Go Westmount.
Beryl Bowser and Rosalind Davis have been working on the project for a long time, discussing ideas and trying different design concepts for a one-stop guide to local events. Now, Westmount's most complete and comprehensive events web site is all up and ready to go.
"The idea has been germinating for a few years," said Davis, who has volunteered with several local organizations, including the Masters Swim Team and the Westmount Municipal Association.
"As Beryl and I were working on various events in the community, we kept saying how it would be great if you could go to one place and see everything that's going on," Davis told The Examiner this week.
The new web site, which organizes all community events, from Westmount Historical Association lectures and church activities to free skating time at the arena, is designed to show at a glance where and when these events are taking place, along with all relevant information. Set up as a series of unified event calendars, the site also allows events to be posted as much as a year in advance, which, Davis pointed out, helps other local organizations avoid conflicts when they look at long-term planning.
The site will soon be linked to the Examiner's web page as well.
"The idea really took off after Beryl took a computer web design course at John Abbott College," said Davis. Since then, she said, the two have been approaching any and all groups in the community that might want to post their events on the site.
