Beaconsfield is set to improve security for pedestrains heading to the local sports field by adding some sidewalks along Montrose Avenue and a section of Fletchers Road.
The sidewalks had been planned following a public consultation on traffic safety held at Windermere School about two years ago but the installation is taking place now to coincide with the complete makeover of the street, Mayor Bob Benedetti said.
“It’s for safety reasons; about 2,000 cars a day pass by and there are lots of pedestrians going to the soccer field,” he said, adding many train commuters also walk by to and from Beaurepaire station.
“We’re not planning a lot of sidewalks in the city, just in areas near parks and schools,” Benedetti said.
The work on Montrose could take about two months to complete, the mayor said.
