Anyone still on the fence over who to vote for in the Dec. 8 provincial election will want to be at Victoria Hall tonight. That's when the candidates on the Westmount- St. Louis ballot will be presenting their respective platforms and answering questions from the audience as part of the traditional Meet the Candidates event.
Co-organized once again by The Examiner and the Westmount Municipal Association, the meeting will consist of opening remarks by each candidate, followed by a question period during which residents of the riding will be invited to direct questions to the candidates on issues of public interest. The evening will end with closing remarks by each candidate, in reverse speaking order.
All five candidates running in Westmount - St. Louis, as officially confirmed following Elections Quebec's nomination deadline this past Saturday, have been invited to attend and participate. There will be a table at the back of the hall where the candidates may display and distribute their campaign literature.
As of the nomination deadline, the confirmed candidates are Nadia Alexan (Québec Solidaire), Jacques Chagnon (Quebec Liberal Party), Patrick Daoust (Green Party of Quebec), Daniella Johnson-Meneghini (Parti Québécois) and Léonidas Priftakis (Action Démocratique).
The Westmount Meet the Candidates evening has traditionally been the main campaign event in this large riding, which extends from Westmount's Claremont Avenue border all the way east to Boul. St. Laurent.
Westmounter Victor Drury, who has moderated several of these events in the past, most recently the federal candidates' by-election meeting at Westmount High School in August, has once again accepted our invitation to serve as moderator.
The Westmount – St. Louis Meet the Candidates event takes place Thursday, Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Victoria Hall, 4626 Sherbrooke St. W. for more information, call Stanley Baker at 514-931-8690.
