Among its many Christmas festivities last week, the Rotary Club of Westmount enjoyed a visit from a distinguished guest.
Member Laurie Bennett, vice-president of operations for the Montreal Alouettes, brought with her live and in-person the Grey Cup, the coveted CFL trophy the Alouettes won last month.
“Most people don’t have the opportunity to see one of Canada’s oldest trophies,” said Bennett. “Even for non-football fans, it can be quite a thrill.”
After the luncheon, members and guests enjoyed interacting with the Cup and posing for a group and individual photos with the esteemed guest. Valued at $77,000 the Cup is priceless in what it has accomplished in and for Canada. Now 104, it has resided in football cities across the country. Its providence is documented on the cup itself with all the names of the winning players, coaches, and president and general manager annually engraved on its chalice.
