Some amateur thespians currently residing at Manoir Westmount recently gave a stellar performance of short comedic skits at a meeting of the Quebec Association of Activity Professionals. The Association was at the Manoir to hear a presentation on the benefits of acting classes for seniors given by actress Lois Dellar.
The group's performance not only resulted in a standing ovation, which was a great thrill for the novice actors whose average age is 88, but also resulted in invitations to perform at two senior facilities, including Chateau Westmount, this week.
The selection of short skits was written by James Milvain, Dellar’s husband, which he based on the characters’ lives in a senior residence.

“Our intention is to preserve the equestrian function of the Griffintown Horse Palace on Ottawa Street, to allow the public to be with horses and discover their role in urban development, and experience the history of Griffintown,” said Juliette Patterson, president of the Griffintown Horse Palace Foundation at a recent open house and launch of the innovative program.
“For the 2010 year, we aim to acquire the entire set of buildings.”
The plan for the 147-year-old facility is to create a museum that tells the stories of immigrants who lived in Griffintown, and open the working stables to the public. Today it provides a cold-weather haven for a half-dozen horses that pull calèches in Old Montreal and elsewhere. Summer capacity is nine horses, including the open-air stalls.
The Foundation recently hosted an open house launch at the stable at 1204 rue Ottawa in Griffintown. A silent auction of Horse Palace artefacts including horseshoes, photos of the horses, and a saddle and riding hat from Leo Leonard, who is now in his 80s and has owned the property for about four decades.
