Being the publisher of a community newspaper is often a thankless job, but every so often, an occasion for celebrating comes along — and this is one of those times.
The Westmount Examiner, which has been making all of Westmount your home since 1935, will be celebrating its 75th year of bringing Westmounters the news they need to stay on top of what's happening in their city.
We're so excited about the occasion that we'll be celebrating all year long, with anecdotes from longtime Westmounters about their involvement with the Examiner, a regular look back and big stories of the past and a special supplement slated for May 6.
The importance of marking the years cannot be understated. As the calendar turned, the Examiner has been there for Westmounters, dating back to before World War II, through the baby boom, the FLQ crisis, the Bill 101 days, two referendums, the municipal merger boondoggle and subsequent de-merger campaign.
We take great pride in having been there to accompany our community through joyous and hard times alike, and we plan on making the next 75 years even more memorable.
With your help, we will make this 75th year one that the community will never forget, and we need your input. Do you have a particularly fond memory of the Examiner and want to share it with us? Were you the topic of a story years ago and want to update us on your life and how it's turned out? Has the Examiner's impact on your community been so strong you absolutely have to tell someone about it?
We want to hear from you!
If you've got a story or photos, we want to hear about it. Simple as that. Send what you've got, or what you're willing to share, to examiner@transcontinental.ca.
So as we make the jump into 2010, check out the Examiner every week, and visit us online at www.westmountexaminer.com for even more 75th anniversary content. We'll also be holding a gala cocktail to commemorate the event in the days leading up to May 6, where we hope to see many of the Westmounters who have helped us grow and prosper over the years. It will, without a doubt, be a year to remember and we are excited to have you, dear readers, along for the ride.
