The name Mary Anne McNally has long been associated with Centre Greene, not only as a tireless volunteer at the local community center but also as an honorary member of its board of governors — and now the Westmount Municipal Association is recognizing her for her efforts.
“She’s the definition of an unsung hero in this community,” WMA vice-president Rosalind Davis said of McNally.
“She has the 'it’s not about me, it’s all about the center' kind of attitude.”
The award comes at a significant time for both McNally and Centre Greene, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary of giving back to the Westmount community.
Since 1998, the WMA has presented this award to unsung heroes in the Westmount community who have contributed in a big way. “It’s to honour those who do volunteer work in our community and who haven’t been recognized,” Davis said.
The WMA will present McNally with the 2009 Derek Walker Volunteer Citizen of the Year Award at its annual general meeting on Monday, May 25 in the Lodge Room at Victoria Hall.
The ceremony, which is open to the public, will take place at 7:30 p.m. The night’s guest speaker will be Westmount-Ville Marie MP Marc Garneau.
