Generations Foundation seeks school supplies
It’s that time of year again! Generations Foundation is appealing to the community to help provide much-needed basic supplies to schoolchildren.
“The beginning of school is such a burden on parents financially, with having to buy clothes or uniforms, paying school fees, bus passes and more,” said Natalie Bercovici, co-founder of Generations Foundation, the organization that provides free hot breakfasts, lunches and snacks to 6,500 kids in Montreal each day. “But equally important to making sure the kids have the nutrition they need to work effectively, they also need the tools… the pens and pencils, the erasers and rulers, the school bags filled with makers, coloured pencils, scissors, duo-tangs and notebooks. Every donation helps us help a child do better in school.”
Donations can be dropped off at the office at 4210 Notre Dame West or can be picked up. For more information, phone 514-933-8585 or email charity@generationsfoundation.com
Cents for seniors
Once again, the New Hope Senior Citizens Centre is giving the community an opportunity to break into their piggy banks and coffee tins of pennies for a good cause, with its annual Cents for Seniors program.
Participants simply empty their coin banks into a plastic bag and continue to fill them until the last week of October, when they can either roll them in rollers provided or their own and then deliver them to New Hope Senior centre. If 50 people roll $20, New Hope will have raised $1,000.
But there is more. Incentives include a chance to win prizes, including a draw for all who raise $10 or more. In addition, a tax receipt will be given for every donation over $10. Donations can be dropped off at New Hope Senior Citizens Centre at 6225 Godfrey Avenue or if that is not convenient, at Sally Aitken’s home at 4476 Ste. Catherine St. W.
